Trinity Youth Services and the Children’s Foundation of America are seeking a Grant Writer Intern, that will work directly with the Director of Development. The Grant Writer Intern will research, gather documentation, draft, and submit proposals that fulfill the necessary requirements of various funding bodies to formally seek funding on behalf of the agency. The Grant Writer role is available as a short-term unpaid internship position.
PRIMARY DUTIES – MUST BE WILLING AND ABEL TO ALWAYS:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of funding and program development trends.
- Research and find funding organizations whose opportunities align with the Children’s Foundation of America’s mission, vision, and values.
- Possess proficient writing skills and the ability to follow written directions.
- Possess proficient comprehension skills to understand both the needs of the agency and the funding organization.
- Collaborate with agency personnel to effectively gather program, needs and financial information required for submissions.
- Develop proposals by assembling information including but not limited to: project nature, objectives, outcomes, deliverables, implementation, methods, timetables, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation.
- Work closely with Director of Development and Financial Controller to ensure proposals requiring financial data are fiscally responsible.
- Prepare and submit grant progress reports required by funders (how much of grant was spent, on what, to what extent outcomes predicted for the project were achieved, etc.).
- Promote and develop new and existing relationships with external organizations which enhance the mission of agency, including opportunities for partnerships for grants.
QUALIFICATION CRITERIA:
Education: Current student at an accredited college/university.
Training and Experience: Three years of college experience in a focus related to writing, English, nonprofit development, or organizational leadership is preferred. Possess a willingness to learn and innovate. Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams. Possess accurate spelling, grammar, punctuation and correct English usage skills.
Internship Details: The Grant Writer Internship is a part-time position. It is flexible based on your school schedule (with option of remote work). It is expected that you work during day hours, especially Monday-Friday to assist in meeting critical grant application and reporting deadlines.
Personal Qualifications: Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing in English. Maintain a positive and pleasant personality when dealing with the public. Be open to learning new skills. Must be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license; a clean DMV record, be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and be insurable by Trinity’s insurance carrier. Must be able to pass a physical examination; criminal background check; and Child Abuse Index check.
