Statement from Trinity Youth Services

9th of June 2020

Trinity Youth Services supports the Black Lives Matters movement and the peaceful protests that are taking place across the country and around the world. We cannot stand witness to murder and remain silent. We do not condone rioting and looting which detracts from the message every person needs to hear loud and clear: Enough is enough. No human being is worth more than another. No man has the right to suppress or oppress another. No system has the right to diminish the value of any person, let alone an entire race of people.

As one of California’s largest and longest-operating providers of children’s services, we have an obligation to protect and preserve the safety, well-being and permanence of the youth we care for, to support and safeguard the unity of family bonds and to ensure our staff have the knowledge, skills and tools to be successful and to feel supported and appreciated. The mission of Trinity Youth Services is: “Helping children and families create a better future.” How can we possibly do that, without raising our voices and taking action?

Children of color enter the foster care system at an alarmingly disproportionate rate than other children and are at significantly higher risk of systemic institutionalization and incarceration as adults. Black children face challenges and burdens other children do not, simply because of the color of their skin. We have an opportunity to impact how they face these challenges and bear these burdens. We have an obligation to do everything in our power to provide them with a pathway to the “better future” our mission statement promises.
